About The Role
The Bridgewater Fire Department Band (BFD Band) works in partnership with the Town of Bridgewater and Bridgewater Fire Department.
We are looking for a Music Director to schedule and conduct rehearsals for primary ensembles. As the Music Director, you provide artistic leadership and musical direction for a well-respected volunteer ensemble. The BFD Band has a long-standing tradition since 1868 for community service, ceremonial participation, and public performance.
Primary Responsibilities
- Schedule and conduct rehearsals for primary ensembles
- Prepare musicians for approved performances and community events
- Assess prospective members and recommend suitable ensemble placement
- Select appropriate music from existing library and recommend additional acquisitions
- Support volunteer leadership in performance scheduling, planning, and event logistics
- Develop and train marching/ceremonial ensemble capabilities as appropriate
- Encourage a respectful culture of teamwork, professionalism, and musical growth
- Represent the Band professionally within the community and relevant music associations
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to motivate and guide volunteers
- Bachelor of Music degree or equivalent education and professional experience
- Demonstrated conducting experience
- Professional level instrumental performance experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in music or equivalent education and professional experience
- Experience conducting concerts and marching bands with varied instrumentation
- Experience working with volunteer or community-based ensembles
- Supervisory or leadership experience with ensemble directors or section leaders
- Physical fitness suitable for parade and outdoor performance duties
- Familiarity with firefighting, prevention, first aid, rescue and related service culture or ceremonial traditions
